If you work on a computer, you may be experiencing Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS).

With CVS, your symptoms might include:

  • eye strain and eye fatigue
  • eye irritation and dry or watery eyes
  • intermittent blur
  • neck strain or neck pain from looking through progressives or bifocals

Computers, although wonderful when they are working well, present new visual challenges to all of us.  Dry eyes (which will sometimes water to try to wet themselves) and trouble sustaining focus on the screen for long periods of time are both very common problems for computer users.

Relief can often be found in artificial tears and separate computer glasses.

Artificial tears (e.g. Refresh Tears, Genteal, Systane) are moisturizing eye drops which do not contain any medication and so can be used as often as needed to keep your eyes moist and comfortable for even long hours of staring at the screen.  Keep a bottle by your monitor so they are visible and handy to use.  Ask us for a free sample to see if artificial tears will keep your eyes moist and happy all day.

Computer glasses are a separate pair of glasses designed for your particular visual requirements.  One pair of glasses cannot always be used for every visual task.  A separate pair can reduce the strain of focussing on the screen for long periods of time and are a neck saver for progressive or bifocal wearers.  Ask our doctors or staff how a pair of computer glasses might help you.  We can even put lenses in an old frame or use our lower cost frames to make this extra pair an inexpensive but indispensible part of your work day.
