Glasses or Contact Lenses

amanda dalbjorn UbJMy92p8wk unsplashTo Our Patients During the COVID-19 Pandemic

At Pierce Family Vision, we currently have our doors locked and are only seeing urgent care patients (with the recommended personal protective equipment) by pre-arranged appointment. In some cases, we are also able to offer remote video consultations via tele-optometry.

If you have a concern about your eyes or vision, or would like contact lenses or drops shipped to you, please call our office at (519) 886-4170. Stay safe and stay well!

Glasses vs Contact Lenses during the COVID-19 Pandemic

Because we still don’t have a lot of information about transmission of COVID-19 with respect to tears and eyes, I am going to keep my advice on this topic as brief and accurate as possible under the circumstances.

If you have an updated prescription in your glasses (which we advise ALL our contact lens wearers to have) then why not use this time to wear your glasses? It will give your eyes extra protection against airborne particles and help you avoid touching your eyes.

If you want or need to continue to wear contact lenses, then you should be safe as long as you are following strict hygiene measures such as hand washing for 20 seconds and drying hands thoroughly, along with optimal wear and care procedures. Daily wear lenses are ideal as they can be replaced after every wear. Biweekly or monthly replacement lenses should be replaced on schedule using a clean case and fresh disinfecting solution after each wear. We ALWAYS advise to discontinue wearing contact lenses if you are sick with any illness but especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Also if there is ANY discomfort, redness, blur or discharge from the eyes then contact lens wear should be discontinued.

If you run out of lenses, all contact lens companies are now offering free shipping of contact lens orders to patient’s homes and although our doors are locked (except for urgent care appointments by prior arrangement) we are answering our phone at Pierce Family Vision (519) 886-4170 and are happy to order and ship contact lenses directly to you.

We look forward to seeing all our patients for regular eye exams when we re-open. In the meantime, please call the office if you have any questions or concerns about your eyes or vision. Stay well and stay safe!
